An unusual incident unfolded in Bogura’s Shibganj Police Station area as a handcuffed suspect managed to escape from police custody. The event occurred on December 13 at around 6 PM at Jabaripur Bazaar, under the Mokamtola region of Shibganj.

Who Was the Escaped Suspect?
The escaped individual has been identified as Faruk Hossain, a resident of Jabaripur village, and the son of Abul Kalam Azad. Faruk was previously a local leader of Ward No. 1 of Mokamtola Union Awami League. Notably, he is also a suspect in a case involving anti-discrimination student movements.
According to eyewitnesses, Faruk Hossain was being apprehended by police when a local BNP leader intervened, forcibly freeing the handcuffed suspect from police custody. However, moments after the incident, the BNP leader reportedly returned the handcuffs to the police.
Police Statement on the Incident
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Taher, along with his team from Shibganj Police Station, attempted to arrest Faruk Hossain based on confidential information.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shibganj Police Station, Abdur Hannan, confirmed the incident and stated, “Based on intelligence, our team went to apprehend the suspect at the market. During the operation, some individuals intervened and helped the suspect escape. However, we are confident that we will recapture the escaped suspect soon.”
When questioned about the recovery of the handcuffs from the BNP leader, OC Abdur Hannan declined to provide further comments.
This incident highlights challenges in law enforcement operations and underscores the necessity for ensuring tighter security measures during arrests.
